De Blasio whines about ‘harmful’ tabloid culture

Mayor Bill de Blasio played the “Trump” card again on Friday — teeing off on the media, especially The Post, in response to stories about a trove of emails the administration was forced to release this week.

“I think there’s a problem with mainstream media,” Hizzoner told WNYC radio. “The corporate media … it’s based on selling things. I don’t think that’s healthy. I think it leads to distortions,” he added. “I don’t think the coverage has reflected the work we’re doing or the impact it’s happening on the people of this city.”

Hizzoner’s ire wasn’t limited to the tabloids, but he did single out The Post — which filed a lawsuit with NY1 to compel the release of the more than 4,200 pages of emails — as “not like everyone else.”

“I think the tabloid culture … has been harmful to New York City … and The Post is the leading edge of that,” the mayor said. “I will not shed a tear if that newspaper is no longer here … their presence in our society unfortunately is harmful.”

In the emails to his aides, de Blasio repeatedly blasted stories he didn’t like in the New York Times — which he ripped as “idiotic,” “horrible” and “biased.”

When those critiques got him compared to President Trump and his bad relationship with the press, de Blasio bristled.

“There’s no comparison whatsoever here and I just find it amazing that that’s the best that people can come up with,” he said.
